Last year was sold out, so we've invited the
Egan/Johnson team back to Ulm for a third time (!) for another evening
of poetry and music on the 7th Feb.

 

In Cooperation with: Ulm University, Centre for Languages and Philology

 

 

 

 

From the Irish Midlands, Desmond Egan is regarded by many as Ireland's leading con-temporary poet, having published 24 collections of poetry. He has been translated into many languages, including German, and has received many international awards for his poetry. His poem »Peace« was translated into hundreds of languages as part of a millennium celebration. Diarmuid Johnson is not only an accomplished musician, but also a poet himself, publishing mainly in Irish. Together they will be blending words with music to create a truly unforgettable experience.

zu Gast: Diarmuid Johnson

 

Als Sohn eines irischen Vaters und einer walisischen Mutter wurde Diarmuid Johnson in Cardiff, Wales geboren. Er wuchs in Irland auf, wo er seine Schulerziehung in irischer Sprache genoss. Er spricht nicht nur Irisch und Walisisch als Muttersprachler, viel mehr lebt er diese Sprachen, die seine eigene Erfahrungswelt im Spannungsfeld zwischen Tradition und Moderne prägen.

 

Als Dichter, schreibt er fast ausschließlich auf Irisch und Walisisch und als gestandener Flötist ist seine Musik stark der keltischen Tradition verbunden. Er war offizieller keltischer Barde in Rhos-y-Gilwen Mansion, Pembrokeshire, Wales und ist heute Director der European Academy of Modern Celtic Languages and Culture. Er versteht sich gleichermaßen als Botschafter und Bewahrer der irischen und walisischen Sprache und Kultur.

 

In seinem Vortrag gibt uns Diarmuid Johnson Einblicke in seine Erfahrungen mit den von ihm gesprochenen und gepflegten Minderheitensprachen - sowohl im privaten als auch im öffentlichen Leben. An diesem Abend wird Diarmuid Johnson auch seinen neusten Gedichtband vorlegen.

Here are all the details for our next Stammtisch for February. We're now back to normal with meeting up on the first Thursday of the month. ;-)

 

I thought I'd try Basil's this time. I've never been there with my Stammtisch yet, but there's a first time for everything! :-D The food is really good there! I hope it will end up being a great place to go for all of us!

 

It is currently closed for renovation purposes, but it will be re-open again this weekend. Therefore I will be calling to make my booking over the weekend…

Below are the details of our next meet-up. I decided to postpone it by one week to next Thursday, due to most people perhaps just returning to work this week and/or still being away on holiday. Sorry I didn't send you this email earlier to inform you that it wasn't this week as usual.

 

I've decided to go back to the Chinese/Mongolian restaurant in Neu-Ulm again. We went there in April last year. The food is really nice, and they have an amazing buffet, with really fantastic choice! Plus the normal menu with plenty of other options, should you choose to have something from there instead.
